When my friends Nicole and Zach got married, they honored me with the task of updating Nicole’s mother’s wedding dress, which had been made by her grandmother. No pressure. Actually, it was a wonderful project, as the gown was beautifully made to start with and fit Nicole fairly well. I removed the sleeves and collar and used the extra pont d’spirit mesh to create an illusion neckline and back, with buttons taken from the cuffs.
Nicole and Zach were married at a historic train depot in Auburn, CA in front of a massive sequoia tree. Every detail, from the home-cooked meal, prepared by Nicole’s aunts, to the bluegrass band that played at the reception, and of course, the dress, gave homage to past traditions while celebrating the beginning of a new future.
