I must confess I went to see the newest Great Gatsby film by Baz Luhrman with the ulterior motive of spying out their fabulous costume design, and I was not disappointed. I’ve always been obsessed with the opulent styles of the 1920’s, and I love the way the movie fused that with a modern aesthetic. So, needless to say I jumped at the opportunity to collaborate on a Great Gatsby inspired photo shoot with long-time friend and wedding photographer Taylor Abeel.
I created two gowns specifically for the shoot. The first, “Daisy” is a romantic confection of english net and chantilly lace, enhanced by delicate sequins that catch the light and sparkle softly. The second, “Jordan” captures the 1920’s sleek silhouette and art deco details with a bias cut charmeuse sheath overlaid with intricately beaded mesh. Tiny art deco silver clasps and strings of glass beads accent the back.
The shoot took place at Hidden Oaks in Ramona, a lovely ranch belonging to some family friends which has been turned into the most charming wedding venue. I must admit I was skeptical at first of the thought of doing a Great Gatsby shoot in such a rustic setting, but the design team led by Krista Morison transformed it into a lavish spread, complete with a chandelier hanging from a tree branch! The shoot was photographed by Taylor Abeel, who succeeded in capturing the mood and model couples’ genuine romance.
Our shoot was just published in Exquisite Weddings Magazine! Look for it in the latest issue or check it out online!
Many thanks to all who participated to make this such a lovely shoot:
